Great wedding location - but beware the new courtyard statue.
We held our wedding/elopement ceremony in the courtyard at the Lightner Museum on a Tuesday afternoon. The setting is beautiful, not too fancy but much nicer than a courthouse/city hall with a very reasonable fee. The museum & city offices were open so we had several visitors and City employees passing by during the ceremony and photography afterwards. Everyone was respectful of our event and most people stopped to offer their congratulations too (which was expecially neat becuase we didn't have any guests with us).
A word of caution: the day before our event the city started construction in the courtyard to install a donated statue. Our event coordinator called to let me know and it wasn't much of a problem for us becuase we didn't have any guests. One section of grass was dug up for them to install the foundation and walkway to the statute location. This biggest problem this caused was the orange tape & cones (which we moved as soon as the construction crew left - 10 minutes after our permit time by the way) and the mud all over the path leading up to the ceremony site. I ended up having to approach from the groom's side, then we switched to start the ceremony, and I still ended up with the bottom of my dress & train a less-than-bridal shade of gray... It's not the fault of The Wedding Authority, just goes to show how the City of St. Augustine pays more attention to a donor giving a one-time gift than the dozens of families who have planned a wedding at their location over the next year or more.
