The Best!. The best BBQ in the U.S! It doesn't matter what you order, you'll love it. When I lived out west, my first stop upon landing in Jacksonville was Lou Bono's. I now live 75 miles away in Georgia, but a detour to southside is always in order if we're in Jax. Go hungry!

The original Bono's serves slow-cooked barbecue and indulgent sides like deep-fried corn on the cob.. The Scene
The Bono's on Beach Boulevard is the first--it opened in 1949--and it still has original booths and counters. It's casual, for sure. Come in wearing a tie and the staff just might throw you out. It's not uncommon to see men tucking their napkins into their shirts, and you'll be thankful for the Wet-Naps when you've finished your meal.

The Food
Beef, pork, chicken and turkey are slow-cooked and, upon request, slathered with Bono's special mild, hot or red sauce. The ribs will have you licking your fingers and asking for more. Yummy sides like homemade coleslaw, sweet potatoes or fries make the meal, with a slab or two of grilled Texas toast thrown in for good measure. Don't miss out on the local favorite--deep-fried corn on the cob. Burgers, hot off the grill, are quarter-pound patties stacked high with lettuce, tomato or good ol' fashioned American cheese.

Lip Smacking. I have dine at all the BBQ restaurants in Jacksonville, even north to Maryland & west to Texas but no one beats BONO'S. The pure taste of the meat come from Harvey, main cooker who has been there over 50 years and give BONO'S it's personality. When Harvey retires there is going to a great lose. At all the other BONO's here in Jax it is not the same.

One day I met a man who flies from New York to Jax, has lunch at BONO's, drives to Miami for business back to Jax eat at BONO's and flies back to NY. He's biggest regret was when he retired.
