Tips for Chart House Restaurant

July 25, 2008

For more than 40 years, this chain restaurant has served seafood and steaks in a relaxed atmosphere.. In Short
Founded in 1961 in Colorado, Chart House now has more than 25 U.S. locations. The restaurants, many of which occupy historic buildings, draw on the local region's natural features, making each one unique. Fresh fish and seafood dominate the menu with offerings like jumbo lump crab cakes, mahi mahi and Australian lobster tail. For landlubbers, there's prime rib, filet mignon and N.Y. strip steak. Sweet finishes include hot chocolate lava cake and raspberry creme brulee.

Very Disappointing. While looking for a good seafood restaurant in Jacksonville, I came across Chart House and remembered going to their Hawaii location numerous times. Granted, we did not have reservations, and when told it would be a 30 minute wait, we went to the bar. After ordering our drinks at the bar, the bartender told us that our table was ready. I explained that the hostess said it would be 30 minutes, but he insisted that we pay out and see the hostess. Well, of course our table was NOT ready, and we had lost our seats at the bar. After about another 15 minute wait, we were led to our table.

Our server was very friendly and our appetizer came out promptly. I ordered the filet and grilled shrimp and my friend ordered the swordfish. It then took us over half an hour to receive our dinner, and when we finally did get it, my filet was over cooked and my grilled shrimp were also overcooked AS WELL as ice cold. The food was VERY disappointing, and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's a shame since the Hawaii location was so good.

Nice atmosphere. I was in Jacksonville on business, and ended up at the Chart House with a business associate. I agree with other reviews that it wasn't necessarily romantic. I was actually relieved... I was comfortable there with another male business partner. The decor was fascinating: sort of a round, concrete building with windows facing the river. It was sort of retro-sixties without being tacky. The menu was nice, but not overly impressive. The lobster spring rolls were good, but sort of bland. They tried to make up for that with a horseradish dip that was way too overpowering. The snapper hemingway was nice, but somewhat "fishy." There was a huge amount of lump crab meat on top though, and the crab was excellent. The service was great.. absolutely no complaints. They were attentive, without being overbearing. My experience with Jacksonville restaurants is limited, but I'd try it again.

Great for Holidays. My wife and I have never had an unsatisfactory meal at ANY Chart House location. Back int the 1960s we used to frequent the La Jolla Chart House in California. Terrific. Now that we are retired, we occasionally visit the Chart House in Jacksonville, FL. With no family locally to celebrate holidays with, we find the Chart House to be a terrific spot for our own private celebrations.

Pros: Always open on holidays.

Great bar: Macallan scotch, etc.

Terrific salad bar.

Excellent service.

Consistenlty good food.

Cons: A Little pricey.

We love the Chart Houses, and arrange to meet relatives and friends for holiday meals whenever possible. Great salad bar. Consistent service.

Stuffy atmosphere and food NOT worth the price!. Not the romantic spot at ALL. Went there for an anniversary and will NEVER go back. It is so stuffy and not at all a romantic sitting. I could have a better and more romantic time being attacked by ants at a picnic along the river. The food was AWFUL. I had prime rib which was very DRY and had NO TASTE. I have had better food and better experience at many other smaller places. I just feel really terrible because lots of thought was put into picking this place and was very disappointed. Could NOT wait to leave and did NOT stick around for dessert.

Great. The restaurant was attractively decorated and it has a unique architecture. The service was wonderful. The food was good and the oysters were delicious. The dishes are a little pricy, but it was worth it.

Traveling & Dinning. All I can say is WOW!!!. The Chart House is a great place to go and enjoy the Jacksonvile Atmosphere and fine dinning. 1st off A great location, right off the South Bank River Walk. Just Park at the River City Brewing Co. and walk to dinner enjoying the great river view as you do so. Once in the air is relaxed but very much upscale. The service was what I expect from a resurant of this caliper. The food is good, served in adequate portions with great presentation. Once dinner is done you can walk it off on the way back to your car, where if you decide you want to enjoy a few drinks you can visit the River City Brewing Co. I always refer it to my friends and business associates as a must stop when in Jacksonville.

Kudos. As a hospitality professional, I am difficult to please. I have frequent Chart House five times in the last 12 weeks. Everyone was wonderful especially the young lady that prepares the ceasar salad. I do not believe she remembers me but she is always outgoing. I have noticed her interaction with other patrons and they receive the same awesome attention. This past Sunday we visited Chart House. She insisted that we try the fruit and made us a fruit plate. KUDOS. My family will continue to be patrons.
