Bring a Stomach Pump!. I don't know how this place stays in business. The food has gone steadily down hill over the past 20 years and has now rock bottom. Why did I try it again? My steak was cold inside and the french fries were so tough, I think I cracked a tooth. Unfriendly waiers top it off.
Not worth the time. After being told how good the steaks were at the Sundog we couldn't wait to get there. The atmosphere is about the only thing this restaurant has going for it. I ordered a ribeye that was quite possibly the worst piece of meat that I've ever tried to eat. It wasn't the cooks fault. No one could have helped this steak. Just a bad piece of meat. Not cooked as ordered and was afraid to send it back. The service was OK. Pleasant but not stellar. As if they really didn't care if you were there or not. After a visit to a smelly restroom with an exposed ceiling I thought the experience couldn't get much worse but it did. The topper for this evening was the check. I have paid much less at chain restaurants for far more and better food. I though a moment of complaining but decided it just wasn't worth it. I highly recommend you save yourself the hassle and go to longhorns or another such steakhouse where you get consistently good food at a FAIR price.
I Have To Always Ask Myself. I have enjoyed going to Sun Dog for many years. The salads and sliced beef appetizers are the best. We have really enjoyed it since they started having outdoor seating. The sticking point for me every time we go is they have a waitress with a nose ring and exzema that EVERY time she waits on us is extrememly flirtatious with the man I with. She will walk by the table, stick her chest out and flare her nostrils (...? ) she will usually only acknowledge him... to the point that he apologizes for her to me. I could say how great the food is but when it comes down to it I always have to ask myself before we go "Am I up for THE waitress" ... sometimes I am.... sometimes I'm not. THis young lady needs to remember it not always the man that is paying the bill and when it's not.... the biggest tip some chick is gonna give her is to quit being disrespectful to couples - the women in particular.
Great Beach Restaurant!. I don't know what these guys are talking about! I've never had a bad experience at Sun Dog nor have I ever had poor service. I've been going here for years and there isn't a lot of turn over on the staff and the food is consistently good. Locals know.... :)
Bad experience.
The appetizers are the best part about Sundog, but some of their food really isn't very good. We had the chicken nachos, which are always very tasty. But the chicken tenders have a bizarre lemon taste that makes them pungent. Also our burger came out with the blood of the meat on the plate and on the bottom bun, so we just asked for another bottom. We realized, sometimes these things happen.
The server was very pleasant, but she had two large parties, and because of the drinking atmosphere, you should be careful when you go if you want a server that isn't too busy to take care of your needs.
Also, don't order sides. I asked if I could get a chicken tender meal and when they didn't have that, I ordered the appetizer and 2 sides. I couldn't believe it when I found out the side of mashed potatoes and the small plate of vegetables were $4 each. I spent $8 on sides and $8.50 on the chicken fingers. What kind of sense does that make? When I asked to speak to the manager/owner about this, he informed me that the prices are published in the menu and that is his cost for the sides. He did give me $1 back per side, but that is still a ridiculous price for side items. I hadn't seen any prices for sides in the menu at all, so on my way out of the door, I double checked the menu and sides are not listed anywhere for $4. I think they should warn people that is how much they charge if it isn't published in menu.
Great Times. I'm not really understanding what all the negative press is about that I'm reading from these sad sticks in the mud. Sun Dog has a very loyal following. Beginning with its people, and finishing very solidly with its food. I've frequented there more times than I could count over the last five years. I enjoy seeing kim and curtis run their restaurant the way that they want to run it, comforting for me. Obviously from what I've read that some people are just hell bent on having a bad evening. I love the food, and the service is handle by some great and fun people. The combination of those two are hard to come by these days. Live on Sun Dog!
rude owners. I would strongly recommend that you do not waste your time with Sun Dog. The owners have a big attitude problem and are unappreciative of their customers. In tight economic times businesses need customers and I would prefer we give business to owners that treat their customers fairly. There are many other great places to eat you can easily skip this hassle.
Rude service/management.
Oops, I did it again...:(((
It is like Groundhog Day...nothing changed. Nearly two years later and everything is the same.
I still like the interior, but that's it.
The service sucks, the management is rude and the food is a waste of money.
Please close down...
There's something in my soup!. This is a poor restaurant that is trying hard to be a bar. They fail miserably at both. The fry cook disguised as a "chef " is new and my buddies and I have money that he won't last three moths. SunDog has had more "chefs" and owners than I care to remember. It reminds me of Glen Close in Fatal Attraction. Come on and die already!
Editorial Review by Christy Buena. Known for its hamburgers, the art deco themed restaurant has a full bar and serves fried shrimp and crab cakes.
