diamond in the ruff.
Shogun is one of the few places to eat in Jacksonville worth dining at. The food is great and it provides a great environment. This is always a stop when I'm in Jacksonville. The steak is excellent. The only cons to Shogun is that being that its located on the Westside, it is subject to white trash patrons. This is normally just an inconvience, but sometimes you get seated at the same tables with these yokels. Most of the time though the people are cool.

Worst Scallops in town.
We went here for my son's birthday dinner, we order scallops from the sushi chef, he set them in front of us, and I immediately noticed a horrible smell. The scallops were NOT sushi grade scallops and the sushi chef knew it. He told us that he had repeatedly told the owners but they wouldn't listen to him.
The scallops smelled like bait. We lived in Japan for many years, and we will never eat there again.

My first hibachi experience ever!.
Shogun will always have a place in my heart among local japanese steakhouses because it was my first. I requested to go there one year for my birthday when I was younger, and have loved it ever since. It is an established local staple. The decor and ambience are interesting (waterfalls, and the like). The building is even interesting from blanding boulevard. There is a reason that there is often a wait here...it is good. Well I guess it is hard to mess up a Japanese steakhouse, but this one has a good menu and has been around. I highly recommend it.

So much Fun!.
I have to say I disagree with the person that says this place isn't good for kids. I brought my 6 year old and 8 year old and they had so much fun! The waitress was silly and the chef was hilarious. My whole family was smiling the entire time and that is worth something. The swordfish was great and so was the tuna and scallops. You really get alot of food for your money and have a lot of fun too. Not really a romantic one on one kind of place but perfect for a first date if you are worried what you will talk about. I can't wait to go back!

Great place to eat and have a good time.
I went to shogun last year for the first time. It was my birthday and I had the best time. The chefs are great and are so funny. The food is excellent. The only down fall is the wait on the weekends (about an hour) and there is no reservations on the weekend.
