Comp to La Nopalera but worse food and more money. The guacamole is blended with a mix or frozen or something. The margaritas were nasty. (How do you screw up a margarita?) The rest of the food was bland like - I don't know, maybe jmatthe is right and - it was all frozen or canned or something. I will certainly never go there again. And it's pretty expensive for Mexican food. We had 2 margs, guac, and 2 entrees = $45. Not worth the trip. I should've cooked my El Paso kit at home.
dont believe the hipe. NIce story desiz, and that pretty much all it is a story. Without any proof (name, or photo) that just can't be posible. take your lies elsewhere. anyways, restaurant is nice food is avarage though. not very healthy for you and doesn't taste very fresh at times. I guess it depends on who is cooking. overall there is nothing special about the place. maybe i'll comeback and try it again.
fast food quality.
Yet another formulaic mexican eatery lacking in quality and creativity. Taco Bell is better. Aren't we sick of the same old microwaved chicken & beef burritos with lardy beans. cheezy cheese and uninspired rice? Not to mention partially hydrogenated cardboardy chips.
For real quality ingredients including fresh seafood, vegetables etc. found in gourmet mexican restaurants I would gladly pay double the prices found here. My mouth waters for homemade corn chips, homemade mexican soups, carne asada, dishes made with nopalares, seafood, poblano peppers - and vegetarian choices that aren't "beans."
This is same old, same old - obviously targeted to the young crowd - a place where our young people can just add to their more fat to their bellies. Lard city.
You're better off staying home. Thanks for listening - the everyday critic
Best Mexican Food In Town. My wife and I moved from Texas to Florida in 2000. We searched for a good Mexican food resturant for over a year. We literally ate at every Mexican Resturant in Jacksonville. We found that Castillo De Mexico was truly the best of them all. Coming from Texas we thought we would never find good Mexican food. We now eat their at least twice a week. My wife loves their Margarita's and Happy hour not to mention the salsa wow! is it good. We do not eat Mexican food any were else.
Castillo De Mexico - the best.
I have eaten several times at both Castillo De Mexico on A1A in Jax Beach and the "#1" Mexican Restaurant in the Jacksonville area, La Nopalero.
They are BOTH excellent.
But Castillo De Mexico comes out a full cut above all the others on the basis of their food, which is always fresh, wonderfully prepared and generous of portion, and their Margaritas, which are to DIE for. The best Margarita in the city, bar none, and at a decent price, is Castillo De Mexico's "Top Shelf".
One "con" - we went there one weekend night where they had live music that was not Mariachi or in any other way Mexican.... in fact it was not in any way "good". A couple of guys with poor voices warbling top 20 songs of long ago over strummed guitars.
Say no to buffet. I've been to Castillo's a few times. The Atmosphere is wonderful and the food is good. The Food is all cooked when you order it, expect it to take a while. I've also had the Buffet there, i recommend you do not go this route. The Buffet does not do the food justice. the Sangria is tasty.. And becasue teh food is cooked as it's ordered, sometime sthere is a wait to et seated.
En Fuego!. Castillo De Mexico is my favorite place for mexican food in Jacksonville. My girlfriend and I have been to both locations, several times and have always been very happy with both the food and the service. They also have a great happy hour (2 for 1) every day of the week. Try their quesadillas, ask for the "grilled" chicken, they are wonderful.
Ultimate Margarita. Not a big margarita fan in general but this one was over the top. Served frozen with what must have been a tequila floater. Knocked my socks off and was a perfect blend (not too much sugar or booze). Food was standard fare but overall worth the trip. Thumbs up.
