Pleasantly surprised.
We were at the beach after 5 p.m. last Sunday and finally had the opportunity to try out Campeche Bay and was it ever worth the wait! We were seated immediately and received our chips and salsa within a minute. The red salsa is different than standard salsas, but very good. My favorite was the green salsa; it had a nice little kick to it and caused me to eat 'way more chips than normal. The chips were fresh, hot, thin and salty. It was a beer night or we'd have loved to try a margarita. Trying to keep it light, I ordered the ceviche and an a la carte chile relleno. The ceviche was delicious and plentiful and absolutely exceeded my expectations. The chile relleno was good, too, but my only complaint was that it was topped with too much salsa and cheese, slighty detracting from the taste of the pepper. Next time I'll just order it plain. My boyfriend ordered the "Zapnin", a chimichanga, and raved about it. Oh, I have to mention that the hostess, as cute as she was, was very sweet and not at all bitchy like many are, and our server Jamie was excellent in every way!
We've been to a few Mexican restaurants in the area, and all have been pretty good, but Campeche Bay is our new favorite and we will definitely be back! I could eat the ceviche every day and can't wait to try a margarita in their very roomy yet cozy bar. If you're in the area, be sure to check it out.
Great food and margaritas. After nearly a year, we had just about given up on finding good Mexican food in Jacksonville until we tried this place and it was great! Very fast seating-we barely sat down at the bar when we were called for our table. The carafes of margaritas are pretty expensive if you miss happy hour but are REALLY good. I like that they only put the ice in your glass instead of the carafe so there is more room for margaritas in it. The green and red salsas were excellent as well. My only complaint was that the chips were very heavily salted when we got them. Other than that, an awesome place to eat-it was well worth the 40 minute drive from St. Augustine.
BEST MEXICAN IN JACKSONVILLE AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS. I THINK MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE EATEN AT EVERY MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN JACKSONVILLE AND BEYOND, AND THERE'S NOT ONE BETTER THAN CAMPECHE BAY AT THE BEACH. THEY HAVE THE MOST WONDERFUL LOBSTER ENCHILADAS AND SHRIMP ENCHILADAS. THEY ARE SERVED WITH THE BEST RICE AND BEANS YOU'LL FIND IN THIS TOWN. ONE RESTAURANT CAME CLOSE ON THE RICE AND BEANS, BUT NEVER QUITE AS GOOD. IT HAS A ROMANTIC ATMOSPHERE AND WE ALWAYS GET SEATED IN REASONABLE TIME. USUALLY RIGHT AWAY. GREAT STAFF AND SERVICE. WE LIVE ABOUT 30 TO 40 MINUTES AWAY FROM THE RESTAURANT, BUT IT'S WORTH THE DRIVE. AND WHEN THE WEATHERS GOOD, YOU JUST WALK ONE BLOCK AND YOU CAN TAKE A STROLL ALONG THE BEACH. TRY IT. YOU'LL LOVE IT.
Awesome Mexican Restaurant. This Mexican restaurant is the best and it is in walking distance of the beach! Their veggie burritos are the best you will ever have!! This is a must restaurant if you love mexican!!
Margaritas and standard Tex-Mex.
Popular bar, happy hour prices encourage the crowd to enjoy a few of "the best margaritas in Jacksonville Beach".
Best appetizer was the chorizo con queso, and the highly recommended fish tacos were very good (ask for the hot sauce, a blend of mano and hot peppers)
Great Mexican Food. We travel to Jacksonville from Denver every year for the TPC and always make a point of hitting Campeche. The food is always great, the drinks are always just right, and the service is always impeccable. Some would say that the West is known more for it's Mexican than Florida, but nothing here beats what Campeche serves up (especially the seafood dishes). A great place for families and couples alike....highly recommended!
User review by tinah159. Everything about Campeche is great. The food , service and Sangria is wonderful.
Love it!. How can you not absolutely love Campeche Bay at the beach? It's dim enough to be romantic, yet hopping in the bar on the weekends! Just blocks away from the beach, this is a great place to go to have a knock your socks off margarita or a cheap, tasty dinner! The food is not overly greasy like most mexican food. I have a great, enjoyable time each time I go and would recommend it to anyone.
Campeche Bay Is Far From Mexican Food. This was the WORST Mexican restaurant I have ever been to my entire life. Taco Bell is more Mexican than this place. Food was flavorless, burnt, and over priced for such a small portion. Want real Mexican food than go to La Napolera for a better price and more food and 100% more flavor. I will never visit or think about eating at Campeche Bay again! How it got best of Jax is beyond me, unless the people in this city are that ignorant to Mexican food.
