Who serves saltines with carb cakes?????. Okay my husband & I love great food. We were looking for a place that we have not been to & this place has been opened for a while so we gave it a shot. Big mistake we felt like the only young people in there. The menu please it was not a good one, drinks when i got it nasty, service they had no clue what was going on. This is a restaurant for old people that have lost there taste buds. Please do not waste your time or money!!!!!!!!
Great atmosphere good food Crab Cakes not so much.. I was pleased by the menu selection, new twists on old dishes. The menu hints at a very exclusive fancy restaurant, but the feel is that of a local pub with a great chef hiding in the cooler. Now on my meal. I am by self appointment an expert of the Maryland Crab Cake; witch is kind of funny because I?m originally from Ohio. So I ordered the ?EMERALD BAY CRAB CAKE PLATTER-Maryland style crab cakes, blended spices, pan seared, served with remoulade sauce and homemade corn relish?. I placed my order at the bar. The first item to come out was the salad, a house salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The greens were fresh and pre cut into nice sized pieces. My only complaint was the croutons, they were off the shelf plain and square. With the menu the way it was and freshness of the greens I would have hoped for a home made sourdough crouton. The corn relish was well made, corn was sweet and firm. Remoulade, a tarter sauce, was good, not having it before I have nothing to compare it to. The meal also came with French fries and steamed veggies. The fries were nice and crispy, just how I like it, and lightly seasoned. The steamed veggies were excellent, with fresh squash, zucchini, carrots, green beans and bell peppers. They were lightly buttered with a garlic butter. Last but not least the crab cakes, first impression were that they were small. I?m used to a huge cake that takes up most of the plate; here were 3 small hockey puck shaped cakes. The flavor was nice and not overpowering but I couldn?t taste the crab meat. I suppose I?m spoiled with crab cakes at home having large pieces of jumbo lump meat, this meat looked like it was canned, very stringy and over handled. The cake was also a little dry, most likely from being over cooked; the pan searing was a little too much. After the fact, back in the room, the crab cake tasted better, although cold. Overall the dinner was a success, price was fair, service was excellent and the atmosphere couldn?t have been beat.
Great Restaurant. Nice, causal, upscale atmosphere that you should experience. I am a harsh critic when it comes to restuarants and service. Stonewood Tavern is far from perfect but for the Jacksonville scene it is a breath of fresh air. This restaurant is a chain but doesn't have that cheesy feel that some of the other nationally chained restaurants have. All the food is of a high quality and is served professionally. A good selection of standard "Americanized" dishes are on the menu. Wine list is ok. But the reason I like this place is that there is no "we're a good restaurant so you should feel priviledged to be here" attitude. Stonewood is what it is. Casual upscale dining with a pleasant atmosphere. No loud music. No annoying customers. And just expensive enough to exclude most people so it makes it a bit more intimate. I haven't visited it on Saturday night but every other night has been pretty good so far. I recommend this place for any type of casual event or special occasion for yourself and 2-4 people. FYI, happy hour here ends at 7:00 and begins again at 10:00.
Editorial Review. For a steak stop or special dinner-a-deux, this comfortable restaurant offers an American-style menu of traditional chops and grilled seafood.
Even their bathrooms were clean!!. Its rare to find a restaurant thats got the perfect combination of great food and great service. Even their bathrooms were clean! My husband and I tried this place after seeing it on the evening news; they were highlighted as one of the restaurants with zero health violations. I called ahead for a table, and found out that they didn't take reservations...but they did take call ahead seating. When we got there, our table wasn't ready so we sat at the bar. We'd just missed happy hour, but our bartender extended the special just for us. An hour after sitting at the bar, we realized our buzzer wasn't working. The bartender comped our drinks, and the manager apologized for the wait. My husband's steak was just how he likes it, and my shrimp and pasta was outstanding. The waitstaff was knowledgeable and even accomodated the special request for bernaise sauce instead of hollandaise sauce for my husband's steak. Even the ambience was great (we totally didn't feel like we were in Mandarin) and we're definitely adding this place to our very short list of favorites.
