Best Waterfront Experience

Enjoyed a fantastic family celebration dinner. Was nervous because read some very negative reviews through MapQuest, but reservation was made. EVERYONE in our party of six was satisfied, from our view to appetizers, including Lobster Bisque, to entrees and finally, dessert. DO NOT allow negative reviews to dissuade you!

Great Location... Little Else

by Amelia Island Guy at Citysearch

My first visit to this restaurant was a huge disappointment. I had gotten the feeling that its water front location might be its strength... and this visit confirms it. For the price it's not a good value. I found the waitress service to be very inconsistent (attentive to only some table members); the drinks to be over priced; and the salad bar to be less than spectacular. Further, my filet had been cooked perfectly but it sat so long it was served cold, and the vegetables were mushy. I likely won’t give this restaurant a second chance.

My Birthday Dinner location every year!

by EENPVB at Citysearch

I enjoy my dinners at Chart House. My server for years was Burt but he recently moved to Hawaii so at this point I am trying to find a replacement for him but all in all... I love this place. They seriously have the best Salad Bar in town.. I would recommend everyone go and try this restaurant!

Horrible Service!

by Jalisa Dowd at Citysearch

My husband and I went to The Chart House this past weekend during downtown's festival of lights. The experience was the worst time we ever had at a restaurant. We pulled up for valet parking, the valet was the rudest person that I have ever met. He snatched the keys from my husband and grumbled that he would have to "find a spot" for our car. As we were leaving the restaurant, we saw the same valet yelling at a woman in the parking lot. I will never eat here again. There are plenty of other places in downtown Jax to eat!

DONT Spend your money here! Go across the street to Morton's

by Lyric at Citysearch

My husband and I are very wealthy people who happen to be african american... and visited The Chart House on 06/20/2009. When we arrived the front desk hostess made us wait for at least 10 min before even recognizing that we where waiting to be seated. Long story short we had to wait to be seated at a table for 30 min when there where 10 tables availiable. My spouse and I went to the bar to wait and waited for about 15 min without anyone taking our drink order.... ironiclly two gentleman sat next to me at the bar whom recieved immediate attention. There is a caucasion white male that is a bartender with a buzz hair cut who is blantly might not like people of other races. If you are weathy black or any other race for that matter dont waste your time. Money is money and my money is green just like everyone elses. Go eat at Mortons steak house across the street. Dont waste your time here!

  • Pros: Its a nice building.... and thats it!
  • Cons: The staff is rude and really dont care to work

Terrible place - Staff is bad too.

by Tommy123 at Citysearch

The chart house has a meat market bar at the front door if you are interested. Cater to large loud parties. This is not for anyone older than 45. Restaurant is not ADA accessible and they don't care.

Parking is blocked so you must use their valet but be forewarned that the neighborhood is dangerous after dark.

Try Morton's, Wine Celler or Tree Steak House if you really want either a steak or nice fish dinner.

Lastly, it is vastly overrated by visting businessmen and very expensive.

Amazing views, interesting style, and delicious steaks

For more than 40 years, this chain restaurant has served seafood and steaks in a relaxed atmosphere.

by Robyn Galbos at Citysearch

In Short
Founded in 1961 in Colorado, Chart House now has more than 25 U.S. locations. The restaurants, many of which occupy historic buildings, draw on the local region's natural features, making each one unique. Fresh fish and seafood dominate the menu with offerings like jumbo lump crab cakes, mahi mahi and Australian lobster tail. For landlubbers, there's prime rib, filet mignon and N.Y. strip steak. Sweet finishes include hot chocolate lava cake and raspberry creme brulee.

Very Disappointing

by my_ark47 at Citysearch

While looking for a good seafood restaurant in Jacksonville, I came across Chart House and remembered going to their Hawaii location numerous times. Granted, we did not have reservations, and when told it would be a 30 minute wait, we went to the bar. After ordering our drinks at the bar, the bartender told us that our table was ready. I explained that the hostess said it would be 30 minutes, but he insisted that we pay out and see the hostess. Well, of course our table was NOT ready, and we had lost our seats at the bar. After about another 15 minute wait, we were led to our table.

Our server was very friendly and our appetizer came out promptly. I ordered the filet and grilled shrimp and my friend ordered the swordfish. It then took us over half an hour to receive our dinner, and when we finally did get it, my filet was over cooked and my grilled shrimp were also overcooked AS WELL as ice cold. The food was VERY disappointing, and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's a shame since the Hawaii location was so good.

Nice atmosphere

by brdave at Citysearch

I was in Jacksonville on business, and ended up at the Chart House with a business associate. I agree with other reviews that it wasn't necessarily romantic. I was actually relieved... I was comfortable there with another male business partner. The decor was fascinating: sort of a round, concrete building with windows facing the river. It was sort of retro-sixties without being tacky. The menu was nice, but not overly impressive. The lobster spring rolls were good, but sort of bland. They tried to make up for that with a horseradish dip that was way too overpowering. The snapper hemingway was nice, but somewhat "fishy." There was a huge amount of lump crab meat on top though, and the crab was excellent. The service was great.. absolutely no complaints. They were attentive, without being overbearing. My experience with Jacksonville restaurants is limited, but I'd try it again.

  • Pros: Atmosphere, service
  • Cons: Somewhat pricy for the quality of food
