JUST PERFECT

I ABSOLUTELY loved the food. (and I can be a picky eater). Service and atmosphere were absolutely delightful. I couldn't have asked for a better outing. I will highly recommend this place to everyone!!! I am italian and it was just like momma's home cooking!!!!! A little more expensive but great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GREAT food GOOD service HIGH prices

An elegant restaurant; very professional service (attentive but not intrusive), all meals were expertly prepared - seafood, as well as a superior pasta dish with ground veal stuffing. Nice crowd, except for a table of very loud, drunk businessmen to our right. Would certainly return, as long as I am on an expense account.

Small Plates

I like the food here - but it is quite expensive. However, upstairs in the bar they serve "small plates" for 1/2 the price of the regular meals. The portions may be considered small by restaurant standards but I found them to be plenty! The only downside in eating upstairs is the piano-man - who is a little cheesy. My note to self was: leave before 10pm!

Experienced True Italian

Having experineced Italy in 1994 and 2001, I must say that Giovanni's rates right up there with the finest dining in Rome, Florence, Vinence and even Naples. While in Italy I never considered a restaurant in Jacksonville Beach could compare, til I discovered Giovanni's. Of course the wine is much more expenstive than in Italy (to be expected) but the food wasnt much more money and besides look at the savings of time and in the cost of travel. Giovanni's is the finest Italian restaurant without traveling to Venices Danieli or Romes Ciampinis or even the restaurant in Hotel Vesuvius in Naples.

Piano music serenades diners in this romantic restaurant where the decor is as fine as the food.

The Scene
Dramatic details, a vaulted ceiling, white marble accents and nightly piano music, make this two-story Italian restaurant a great romantic spot. And the service? The experienced staff is very attentive. A few have worked here ever since Giovanni's opened in 1972.

The Food
The menu is continental with Italian flair. The antipasto Giovanni starts the meal off with prosciutto, salami, vegetables and cheese cushioned in baby greens doused with balsamic vinaigrette. All the pasta is homemade. The linguine pescatore is a delicious combination of mussels, clams, shrimp and squid in a brothy sauce of tomato and white wine. Any one of the tender veal dishes served with decadent black truffle oil or lump crabmeat in a rich cream sauce is excellent. For a sweet ending try the chocolate horn with fresh berries.

Memorable!

I have not eaten at Giovanni's for a while, but the food, service, and romantic atmosphere will remain in my memory. We used to call ahead to have Giovanni prepare his special canniloni with white sauce( but only for a crowd) UMMMMMM Good!

Giovanni's: smoke & mirrors

VERY over rated food and very expensive drinks. No value here and there certainly aren't any culinary breakthroughs. People are esily fooled by the fancy mirrors and Italian gaude.

Much better Italian at Sergio's.
